In this water colour painting I created what is usually impossible in a standard portrait – where the subject is either full face, three-quarter profile or full profile. Here is a 270 Degree Portrait!
Within the same composition I used mechanisms within the setting of the kitchen sink to reflect back the subject’s full face in the shaving mirror; full profile in the stainless steel of the colander – adding another dimension of distortion to the image; and in the foreground, the unusual portrait-angle painted from the back of the man’s head. For added interest I included another portrait in the form of a miniature monochrome of Sir Winston Churchill who is seen smiling out from the poster pinned up on the wall, rhyming with the profile portrait above. The panoramic view from the window in the background of the composition echoes the panoramic theme of the portrait. Note the detail of the detachable collar and pre-tied tie waiting on the table ready for wear.
