From Aug 1971 – Aug 1981 as Head of Art at Burnley Grammar School for Boys, Byron Street, I had a wonderful view from the art room – which many of my pupils might remember. Here is an oil pastel I made of that view in 1973. The vibrancy of this medium remains fresh nearly 45 years later.
The coal-fired Padiham Power Station in the background began operation in 1926 and generated power from 1927 till it was closed in 1993. You can read more about it through this link.

In 1996 I took this time-lapse set of photographs of the chimney being demolished.

Burnley Grammar became a mixed comprehensive in 1981, and was renamed Habergham High School. I was appointed Head of Art for this new school and remained there until 1984 when I took early retirement from teaching. Here are a couple of examples of my teaching notes from that era.
